The University of the Philippines Diliman Data Protection Office (DPO) recently welcomed representatives from Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) for a benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening data privacy practices in higher education institutions.
The engagement provided a platform to exchange insights, compare practices, and identify strategies to improve compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA). The DPO highlighted its journey toward compliance, showcasing key programs and best practices.

Among those presented were strategies for conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), implementing incident response mechanisms, and rolling out awareness campaigns across academic and administrative units. Discussions also covered policy development and the integration of data privacy into daily university operations. OMSC representatives, in turn, shared their ongoing initiatives and operational challenges.

The visit concluded with a commitment from both institutions to sustain collaboration and knowledge-sharing. As universities continue to navigate an increasingly digital landscape, UP Diliman and OMSC reaffirm their shared responsibility to promote responsible data governance and safeguard personal data.
